The 4th round of the 2013 ELMS Championship held at Hungaroring, Hungary, promised much for JMW Motorsport.
From the outset on Friday, the team were on the pace in practice. This pace was further cemented when in Saturday morning's qualifying Andrea posted a blistering lap in the rain to take pole position in the LM GTE class.
However, the weekend was overshadowed by rain and gloomy skies, gloom which was sadly to spread to the track for JMW.
Joel started the race, with the team opting for intermediate tyres. In the treacherous conditions on track, the team dropped back as it played out that tyres and grip would play a major role in the race. Stranger still was that no tyre seemed to be a great choice - wet, inters or slicks, such were the damp, odd track conditions. This was certainly a race that tested the tyre manufacturers to their limits against their greatest of foes - unsettled weather!
Despite losing ground earlier on, the team managed to make up ground and return to strong lap times. As Andrea took the car, the challenging track conditions were still the top talking point. Andrea put in some great lap times but soon a new issue rose its unwelcome head. The team pitted to investigate and found it was alternator related. The pit stop took almost one hour and whilst the team rejoined for the final part of the race, in which they showed excellent pace once more, sadly it was not enough to be classified given the laps completed.
This obvious disappointment aside, the team are more fired up than ever to attack the final race of the season with full force. The final round takes place at Paul Ricard on 28th September.
