It was always going to be an emotional race as JMW Motorsport rolled the old gal Ferrari 458 out for her last race. The team will be sporting the new 488 for the rest of the season, making it's debut at Le Mans 24 Hours, but it was all about her predecessor this weekend.
With a game of driver musical chairs in place whilst Rory had commitments elsewhere, the team welcomed back Jonny Cocker to fill his spot alongside Rob and Jody.
Practice and qualifying were relatively uneventful and the team took the back spot of the grid but quietly confident race pace and reliability would be on their side and boy, were they right!
A great first stint by Jody saw the #66 JMW Ferrari move steadily up the running, and Rob ensured they stayed there for his stint! Jonny took the wheel and extended out an impressive 33sec lead. Jody took the final stint to the chequered flag but it was clear #90 TF Sport Aston Martin wasn't get to let JMW run away to a fairytale ending without a fight. With under 30 minutes of the 4 hout race to go the gap was down to 15seconds with the Aston eating around three quarter of a seconds away each lap. However, the JMW Ferrari, the oldest car on the grid, didn't miss a beat and crossed the finishing line just had she had on her first outing all those years ago - first!
In the close knit world of ELMS, even competitors couldn't help but smile and rejoice in the swansong victory for a much loved car.
